I'm curious as to what will happen to the old NK1.x branch. If NK 2.0 does not follow the same "language" as NK1.x (so completely different APIs, programming style / philosophy), why not open up NK1.x for the community (i.e. open source it), for those that want to continue using it or extending it for their own, existing projects. None of our clients would be happy to pay us again to port our projects to the (potentially rather different NK2.0), so it would be good if 1.x could live on an extra few years. I'd potentially have a bunch of code to contribute, Halfmoon certainly has, and so has Francisco. There's certainly enough interest and expertise in terms of maintaining it...

From Sencha's business point of view, It shouldn't be too great competition to NK2 either since NK2, as far as I understand, will aim to have all APIs completely cross-platform compatible. So for new projects, there really will be a clear incentive to go wtih NK2. But again, the question really is also what is going to happen to our legacy projects and commitments we gave to our customers in terms of maintenance...

I have a ton of code to expand and update NK v1 and would love to see it open sourced. AFAIK, Sencha's products are all OS or at least "source available" and opening up NK would fit nicely with their current licensing. Plus I'm nosy and would like to have a poke around in NK's innards ;)

Regarding NK v2, I'm sure I read somewhere on here that the new version will maintain legacy support for a while at least but until we get more info, I guess no-one can say for sure on the new API's and what the changes will be.

Hi,

After all this time and have talked with the CEO of Sencha, the Chief of Engineers and Alexander, we have not reached any alternative solution for the continuity of NK, regardless of what they do in Sencha to integrate their products with NK.

About NK opensource, we will need to wait a lot of time before they share the code.

Regarding the Android version, there will be none until version 2 comes integrated with its products and only with the new API.

When will come out this version 2 ? ... We do not know, sometime in 2012 or later.

In summary, we continue as before. With the same information we had, rather short, and without a clear future in the short term.

Note: This is a summary of what has happened these days. Without going into details, because if you took the comment as conversations, not what you were going to believe, and I suppose it would be censored.
If someone whant to know the details PM me.

Regards.
Francisco.

NK 1.x is still the key and need to work around on some important bugs, which now no progress from the bug report page. NK 2 is not NK since the whole framework is changed even the langauge and style (even the framework name). So NK 2 is not NK...

I totally agree to release NK 1.x to the community, if NK1.x will be no longer update & support. If all the things changed, it is different frameworks anyway.

I have a number of projects that used NK1.x for my company and clients. Couple of them are huge... for enterprise company that I and my team wrote them for more than 6 months. There is no way to re-write them in Sencha style and most of them are best on standard jQuery and JS packages. For some bugs, my obj-c team replace those function and re-write again as Obj-C mix style, but it is non-standard and cannot get support from NK.

I am looking forward to see the new era of NK in opensource or community support in the new future. Hopefully my wish will be true.

i had a dream .... Nimblekit 2.0 was released ! in fact it is more than a nightmare
Who can be confident that this version will be compatible with the future development in Xcode (5, 6...) and IOS (6, 7) and that the following of our app will be guuaranty, as is the will of our clients
I understand that Sencha do not intent to follow with Nimblekit and we have to find a new alternative
Thanks to Sunny and Alexander for this wonderful project, shame to Sencha to kill the best soft on the market.

I have made many tries with the last version of Jquery mobile and i think it could be a possible alternative.

Thanks to all of you who participate to the forum, the most efficient i have never know ... and who increase widely the power of Nimblekit

I'm still in a nightmare.. upgrading XCode and iOS some of the NK object starts to have bugs..
ie: mail composer. :-(

if Sunny will not help us fighting against this bugs, for me it's a big money loss because I've to rewrite everything I did in last two years..

i'm starting using phonegap and jQuery mobile but still have problems with google maps..

I confirm.. it's a nightmare..

Guys, portion of good news:
I'm finishing plugin architecture for NK 2.0, with it I can make a plugin where I will put almost all NK 1.9.x APIs, so your apps will work as before with small modifications. Also with new plugin system all your custom code can be made into plugins and shared with other devs via our web frontend. I will start to work on plugin very soon to try to release it somewhat at the same time with NK 2.0. It's my initiative and I'm doing that in my free time, not working time, so don't ping sencha about that, email me instead if you need.
